Judo Dan Grade Syllabus

Part 1

1st Dan 16 years and above

  • Part 1 Candidate to demonstrate 10 counters and 10 combinations of their choice, on the move.
  • Part 2 Candidate to demonstrate 5 ground holds, 5 arm locks and 5 strangles of their choice. (These must be done in a practical way)
  • Part 3 Candidate to demonstrate 10 throw from the Gokyo, of the examiners choice.
  • Part 4 10 Questions on Japanese terminology
  • The candidate has 12 months to complete the grading after registering with IBF HQ and paying relevant fee. They can be examined at any time by Senior Examiner

Part 2

2nd Dan (18 years of age or above)

  • Katame-no-Kata Nage-no-kata
  • Knowledge of 1st Dan Syllabus

3rd Dan (21 years of age or above)

  • Gonosen-no-Kata Katame-no-Kata Nage-no-kata Juno Kata
  • Any 3 kata’s of the above
  • Knowledge of 1st Dan Syllabus

4th Dan (30 years of age or above)

  • Goshin Jitsu Gonosen-no-Kata Katame-no-Kata Nage-no-kata Juno Kata Itsutsu No Kata
  • Any 4 kata’s of the above
  • Knowledge of 1st Dan Syllabus

All Candidates must have an understanding of IJF rules.

Grading’s can be taken in increments over a period of a Year or taken at IBF Grading.

 

This applies to all Dan Grading:

Those taking Competitive Grades must show their Contest ability by:

1 Produce evidence of Competition experience and results

Or

2 Take a Line Up

Or

3 Attend several Contest Training sessions minimum 6 hours under a senior examiners

4 All Candidates must have an understanding of IJF rules

Technical Grades

  1. Gives a demonstration of Randori
  2. Demonstration of Technique/Kata will be of a much higher standard then a Competitive Grade
  3. Qualify as a referee

Grades can be awarded for exceptional services to the IBF.

Those applying for 5th Dan Grading will apply to IBF HQ with CV and years with IBF.

6th Dan above will apply to IBF HQ with CV etc. they must be in continual membership of IBF for a minimum of 20 years. If accepted by IBF HQ a recommendation will be made to IBF International Congress where they may have to present themselves.
