The International Budo Federation is a multi-style martial arts and combat forms association which has representatives in 25 different countries.
It was formed in Holland in the mid 60s by Peter Schonewille 9th Dan. The late Nobby Clarke 6th Dan became the IBF UK first representative in 1966. The present International IBF President is German Friedebert-Georg Nerring 9th Dan. Nobby's son Martin Clarke 8th Dan is now the President of IBF UK. Director General is Dave Boulding (England) 6th Dan, and Vice Presidents are Robin Hyslop (Scotland) 4th Dan and Chris St John (N Ireland) 4th Dan.
Competitions and courses are organized throughout the UK and we also have access to International Competitions and courses.

The IBF was one of the first organizations to organize International competitions for all its members, not just for an elite few.

IBF UK has a very modern approach to the martial arts and recognizes they need to change with the times. We were one of the first organizations to recognize that coaching plays an extremely important part in the promotion of Budo sports and ways; our President Martin Clarke introduced the IBF Coaching Award system way back in 1972. The Award system was updated ten years ago with the help of the late great Geoff Gleason 9th Dan. Since then Professor Richard Bailey, a leading expert in Physical Education, has contributed and we now have the IBF Coaching Effective Programme which ranges from level 1 to 5. We also have awards for those who have become Coaches/Instructors from practical experience, we realize that an exam doesn't always make a good coach.

The IBF also recognizes that not all Coaches can put their thoughts and ideas down on paper, so we have three coaches: Practical Awards Instructor, Teacher and Master Teacher. IBF UK offers Club, Instructor and Student Insurance, big discounts on licences for member clubs, the ability to do your own gradings up to 1st Kyu with the club keeping all the grading fees and much more. We also offer you the ability to form your own association under our umbrella.

Judo (Budo) in reality is not a mere sport or game. I regard it as a principle of life, art, science. In fact, it is a means for personal cultural attainment
