The YJC 50th Judo Championships was a runaway success and I would like to thank everyone who supported the event, the same must be said about the IBF Multi Nations which was held for the first time in Dumfries Scotland. Steve Jacob held an open competition in Bedford in July, although it was a successful event the support from IBF members and Officials was disappointing. Woodside Judo Club will be hosting the IBF Nationals and have showed concern that they will not be supported; I hope this will not be the case. Bedford was chosen because it is in the middle of the country and it is all part of our strategy to move events around the country, next years Nationals hopefully will be in Bexley and 2009 will be in Faversham, my club the Young Judo Club has already hired two mini buses to take the kids the event so remember the IBF National Judo Championships November 11th 2007.

Coaching and Insurance has become an important part of the fabric of Sport and Judo is no exception. Linked to insurance cover is being a competent Coach and part of that is proving that you are attending regular courses, also all IBF Coaches/Instructors need a First Aid Certificate and must have attended a Child Protection Course. To facilitate this I have been running a Judo revision Course in January at present this has not been compulsory but as 2008 it will be compulsory for all IBF Judo Coaches/Instructors to attend this course or similar course failing to comply and their Insurance cover will be withdrawn. If you have a problem with this please let me know. The date of the course will be Saturday January 12th 2008 hopefully the venue will be Bexley or Bromley Instructors Trevor Davies 6th Dan, Dave Boulding 6th Dan, John Clarke 4th Dan, Greg Garside 4th Dan, Colin Carrott 3rd Dan. Robin Hyslop 4th Dan will be holding a similar course in February in Scotland. You have plenty of time to organise yourself and please be aware there will be no exceptions to this rule as I will have inform the Insurance Company.

As you know the BJA now allow you to hold license with other associations some of  you have taken advantage of this and I am pleased to say all those who have gone for grade recognition have had their IBF Grade accepted putting to bed that claim by some BJA grades that they are superior and with John Clarke winning a Bronze in the Kent International proves our fighters are as good as anyone (see report on www.youngjudoclub.co.uk) with the BJA re-introducing Kata they asking IBF Coaches to give instruction and I hope that all IBF Judo Coaches will help BJA members this new found harmony can only improve Judo. One thing I did notice at the Kent International was how easy it was to get an Ippon too easy in my opinion and before you start crowing I believe the IBF scoring of Ippon is to hard there should be a happy medium to encourage the production of big throws. My senior grades at the recent Bedford Open seem to think that the young referees who officiated at the event have found that middle way well done to them. Those who are interested in what I thought of the Kent Open should go to http://combatarts.blogspot.com

At the Judo Coaching Seminar in January it was agreed that I appoint a IBF Executive Examiners Panel who would conduct all Judo Dan Gradings on my behalf and revamp the Senior and Junior Judo Syllabus this they have now done, this can be seen on www.budo-ibf.co.uk or you can get a copy by sending a large SAE to HQ. This Grading syllabus will come to affect as of August 1st 2007 and will be apply to all IBF England members, one important point you will find that there is now an examiners sheet and this must be sent to John Clarke 4th Dan, 54 Chiltern Avenue, Sittingbourne, Kent.ME10 4TE

I use the internet a lot to communicate as postage is very expensive if you do have internet access find someone who does.
