SUMMER BUDO CAMP 2012

In the 1980's and early 1990's one of the World most Innovative Coaches Geoff Gleeson used to visit the IBF on a regular basis. Geoff was already a friend of the Clarke Family from way back in the 50's when is used to visit the Sittingbourne Club and my father Nobby was a regular at his Barton Hall Summer Camp. Some of Geoff's methods were interesting to say the least, getting us to put a tarpaulin on the ground and then dip our shoes in paint, then do Uchi Komi. Then we would step back and evaluate the abstract design to see if it could improve our Judo, or the time he made us wear coloured strips of ribbon on our Gi's to try see through squinted eyes what was happening when we attacked with a throw plus their was much more. Through these various encounters I (Martin Clarke) became a very good friend of Geoff's travelling round the Country on seminars with him. I approached him about forming some Coaching organisation outside of the main stream and the two of us came up with the ACADEMY OF COACHING. I am sorry to say it only lasted a few years maybe because it was a head of its time, what I have done is included the first newsletter we produced please read it and see if some of the articles can stir your imagination and lets be honest today's Judo needs some imagination.

The best way to read the newsletter is print the pages, for those who are interested I still have booklets on my "Letters to Geoff" and "Gleeson on Kano"
